Over the years, I have tried so many different back scrubbers/exfoliators that I have lost count. From your traditional long handled back brushes to ones that looked like a string of bath poufs sewn together that lasted maybe…for 5 showers, my quest to find something to properly self-scrub my back felt never-ending.
Before we get into the review of my latest test subject, let’s first answer why is finding the perfect back scrubber important. Well! For one, we don’t nearly wash our back as often as say, our hands or our face. We wash our faces typically twice a day, our backs gets that kind of attention just once a day ~ maybe 😂. This means that our back is often covered in a not-so-appealing layer of dirt, sweat, body care residue which may all lead to pustules – small bumps on the skin that are filled with pus or fluid. This also means that if you’re prone to acne, you may encounter the dreaded ‘bacne.’ The good news is that with a good deep cleanse bacne may be prevented. Another thing to note is that the skin on our back is less delicate than our face and thus, a deep scrub is very beneficial.
A second reason why finding a great scrubber for your back is that, to be honest, unless you have great shoulder and back flexibility, scrubbing your entire back without the help of something or ehm, someone else, is pretty difficult. So finding a long handled back brush or scrubber that suits your tastes and needs, I feel is a good and necessary investment.
As earlier stated, I’ve tried regular poufs, long poufs, short poufs, poufs on a stick, long handled brushes and the list goes on…I’ve tried a lot. Almost throwing in the towel and succumbing to my bacne state (I’m being totally and completely dramatic at this point) this past campaign, I saw that Avon has a new product that may be just what I need! Introducing The Exfoliating Back Scrubber. When I saw it, it reminded me of a cross between an obi belt and a towel so I immediately knew that I had to try it.
It looked softer than any long handled back brushes that I’ve tried and more structurally sound than your typical shower pouf. This exfoliating back scrubber is a 60 x 10 cm scrubber that is dual sided – one side featuring a textured sponge surface while the other side features a soft smooth surface. With the length of 60 cm I was pretty confident that I would be able to reach all areas of my back with ease.
It arrived at my doorstep a few days early and needless to say, I was pretty excited to try it out. I opened up my package and even though I knew the rough dimensions, I was still surprised with the size of this scrubber. As described, one side featured a softer texture while the other side had a rough texture for a deeper exfoliation.
Alright, time to test it in the shower…
Pros – FANTASTIC reach. I was able to easily scrub my entire back, shoulders, lower back and as an added bonus, it even scrubbed the back of my thighs where I often experience some ingrown hairs and bumps. Using it like a pully system, I was also able to exfoliate my heels much more effectively than when I try scrubbing with my pouf. An additional bonus with this scrubber is that you can conveniently just throw it in the washing machine and then simply let it hang dry.
Cons – My shower cleanser (I’m currently using the Veilment Hemp Seed Oil Ultra-Nourishing Shower Shake) didn’t suds up as much with this back scrubber compared to my usual shower pouf but neither did any of my other non-pouf back scrubbers . If I want a more sudsy experience, the softer side definitely provided that better than the textured side. For a full scrubbing neck to toe adventure, I feel that you would need two separate bath tools, your regular bath pouf and this back scrubber. This isn’t a problem for me, as I prefer to use a pouf for my neck, chest and nether regions 😅
Final Thoughts – This back scrubber is great tool for a deep exfoliating clean. I found this one to be more gentle than other long handled back scrubbers that I’ve previously used, but definitely more effective than my last strung-together-pouf-like scrubber. The material looks like it will last for quite a long time and I look forward to hopefully saying adieu to my back breakouts leading to cleaner and healthier skin everywhere.
